VISIT VISA
People visit UK for many reasons such as family visit, tourism, for business or to attend certain events etc.
Generally, visitors in all categories will need to show:
- The purpose of their visit to the UK and that this is for a permitted purpose (i.e. you are not allowed to undertake paid work or to attend an interview for a job.
- How the visitor will be maintained. For example, you have to show the funds for your travel/ living costs, accommodation arrangement and to prove whether you can afford the costs of your visit.
- You will have to justify that why you will return home. This can be proved to demonstrate the strong links you have back home e.g. family, jobs, running a business etc.
Visit visas can be issued for anywhere between 6 months and 10 years period. It is necessary that, in any event, visitors should not spend more than 6 months in the UK in any 12-month rolling period.
Types of visit visa:
General Visitor includes those visiting family members or friends and tourists on holiday.
Child Visitor, where the purpose of the child’s visit is to see family or for some short-term educational reasons.
Parent of a Child at School in the UK may be allowed entry if the child is aged under 12.
Student Visitor to undertake study for a period of less than 6 months;
Business Visitor is a wide category visa but only for those who have no intention of transferring their base to the UK, will not receive a salary from a UK source and will not be selling goods or services direct to the public.
Academic Visitor visa is for highly qualified within his own field of expertise, wanting to carry out research and associated activities in the UK.
Visiting Professor who is accompanying students taking part in Study Abroad Programmes in the UK.
Religious Worker visiting the UK for a religious event or conference.
Marriage and Civil Partnership Visitor – the couple must not intend to stay in the UK after the marriage or civil partnership ceremony (those that want to stay should apply as a fiancée or proposed civil partner).
Private Medical Treatment Visitor who genuinely need and can afford to pay for medical treatment in the UK.
Sports Visitor who are coming to the UK for a single event or a series of linked events.
Entertainer Visitor includes the entourages of entertainers.
Transit Visitor visa for any passenger whose sole purpose is to pass through the UK within 48 hours.
Prospective Entrepreneur Visitor visa is for those who wants to come to the UK to secure funding to set up a business in the UK.
Visitor Undertaking Permitted Paid Engagement provided the activity will last no longer than 1 month.
